How To Create Half Up, Half Down Space Buns
If you have shorter hair, half up space buns are a great option if you like the space bun look but don't have the length for full space buns.
Step 1: Section your client's hair straight down the middle, and take two even-sized pieces at the front of the head.
Step 2: Secure one of your sections out of the way and begin to dutch braid your first section. Secure your braid at the end with a clear elastic.
Step 3: Repeat on the opposite side so that you have two symmetrical braids.
Step 4: To create your buns, backcomb the ponytail section of your braids to create extra volume for your space buns.
Step 5: Twist your backcombed ponytails into buns, and secure to the head with a clear elastic. Repeat this on the opposite side so that you have two similar size and shaped buns. For added security, you can also secure the buns using bobby pins.
Step 6: Style the remaining hair as you wish, we have opted to curl the hair using straighteners.
Step 7: Now it’s time to add your glitter. Take a small amount of glitter base and add it to a tint bowl using a tint brush. Then add biodegradable multi-purpose glitter to the glitter base, and mix together with a tint brush.
Step 8: Now you can apply the glitter to your dutch braid using a tint brush, we chose to add glitter to the top of our braid, however, you can add as much or as little as you like. We added lilac iridescent biodegradable glitter. For added colour and glitter we also sprayed our space buns with hairspray and sprinkled some loose glitter directly into the backcombed space buns.
