Using the correct aftercare is a crucial part of ensuring the length of time your extensions will last. The quality of the hair will have some part to play in the longevity of your hair extensions, which is why SimplyHair only stock the highest quality human hair, however your aftercare routine will play a fundamental role right from the day your hair extensions are fitted, so it is important to get it right.
We highly recommend professionals to provide your clients with aftercare advice for them to maintain after their appointment, to ensure the quality and longevity of their hair extensions. Every hair extension order will contain a complimentary aftercare card, which is the perfect maintenance guide to give to your clients. We would also recommend that you direct your clients to this page for further information regarding how to maintain and care for their hair extensions.
Hair extensions must be fitted by an individual who is trained to do so, in order to avoid damaging the natural hair.
The natural hair should be clean and dry before application, we would highly recommend using our Cleansing Shampoo prior to fitting to ensure any product build up is removed from the natural hair.
It is the responsibility of professionals to conduct any necessary patch tests for allergies prior to fitting.
As all of our hair extensions are 100% human hair, for the most part, additional processing in terms of colouring has been successfully achieved by many of our customers without issue. However, should you decide to go ahead with processing the hair, as we are not performing the processing ourselves, we will not be able to guarantee the quality after this has occurred, and this would be at your own risk.
We would advise performing this on a test strand first to ensure you are able to achieve the finished look you desire, before going ahead and processing the entire set.
We have some useful articles on our blog that go into further detail about colouring/toning your hair extensions.
We recommend waiting 48 hours once your hair extensions have been applied before washing to allow your extensions to bond correctly.
We do not recommend washing your hair extensions every day, we recommend that you should wash your hair extensions 2-3 times a week.
Firstly, de-tangle your hair thoroughly before washing using your Hair Extension Brush. This ensures that your hair is easy to brush once you have washed your hair and removing any tangles beforehand will help with this immensely.
When washing your hair, ensure that the water flows in the direction your hair grows. Do not wash your hair over the bath, or with your head flipped upside down, as this can cause tangling.
Using Hair Extension Shampoo in warm water, lather the shampoo gently into the scalp, being very careful to avoid disturbing the bonds too much. Once the scalp is covered, work your way through the rest of the hair, stroking instead of scrubbing the shampoo into the mid-lengths and ends.
Use Hair Extension Conditioner on the mid-lengths and ends of the hair avoiding putting product on the root area where the bonds are attached, then rinse thoroughly and squeeze out any excess water.
It is important to use a professional hair extension brush on your extensions to prevent your hair from becoming tangled or matting.
We recommend our Hair Extension Brush as the bristles have been designed to be ultra-flexible, making brushing wet and dry hair extensions much easier.
Using the incorrect brush may loosen the extension bonds or cause unnecessary damage to the hair extensions or your natural hair.
Using your brush, slowly work your way from the tips of the hair up to the roots, detangling as you go.
Gently brush your hair at least twice a day to ensure your hair remains tangle-free.
After washing, gently squeeze out the excess water and pat dry with a towel. Avoid rubbing or pulling the extensions with the towel.
Apply Heat Protection Spray and Argan Oil to damp hair at the mid-lengths to the ends, to protect the hair from any heat damage.
Gently blow dry the hair on a low setting to avoid disturbing the bonds.
You can use a variety of heated styling tools on human hair extensions, including hairdryers, straighteners, curling tongs, and heated rollers. We would recommend using the lowest possible temperature when using heated styling tools.
We would recommend using our Heat Protection Spray whenever you are using heated styling tools to avoid any heat damage.
You must keep heat away from your extension bonds at all times to avoid damaging them or causing your extensions to slip.
For more information, check out our heated styling tools article here.
Hair extensions must be removed by an individual who is trained to do so, in order to avoid damaging the natural hair.
Regular hair extensions maintenance appointments are an important part of keeping your hair extensions looking great and being in a healthy condition. These are recommended every 4-6 weeks. We would recommend after your fitting that you schedule in with your hair extension technician regular checks every 4-6 weeks and that you stick to your appointments.
The correct products should be used when removing hair extensions. We would recommend using our Removal Solution for Tape hair extensions and Nail Tip hair extensions, and Hair Extension Pliers for any ring method extensions.
It is very important that you never sleep with your hair wet or damp.
The best way to wear your extensions at night or whilst sleeping is to secure them in a braid to ensure your hair stays out of the way and detangled.
We recommended that hair extensions are treated with intensive treatments such as our Hair Extension Repair Mask at least once a week to help keep them in their best possible condition.
When on holidays, hair extensions need even more care than they do at home, so be sure to check out our hair extensions holiday article here.
If you are experiencing discolouration, pink/brassy staining, damage or dullness, this can be caused by factors including exposure to hard water, excessive heat styling, sunbed use, chlorine, sun exposure and saltwater, or sun cream. We would recommend avoiding these as much as possible to ensure your extensions are not affected by discolouration.
Our Malibu C Hard Water Wellness Remedy will remove any buildup or discolouration and restore your hair extensions.
